Design won’t save the world. As designers, we would be naive to think we could. However, what we can do - not only as designers - is to try to understand the world and its mechanisms better. We don’t have to be a full-time activist to shape the reality around us, small acts also matter - done somewhere between our daily life and our future plans. Somewhere in the meanwhile*. And a little bit of critical thinking is a good starting point.
*Meanwhile is a platform that publishes the results of design labs and workshops taking place in the academic environment of Polish-Japanese Academy Information Technology. It focuses mainly on one of the courses: Freedom of Speech in a Digital World, but in time we added other student-focused activities connected to similar topics. The platform shows a variety of projects, where design is both a subject for reflection and an act of visual action. There are mainly short visual messages, like animations of GIFs, yet each of them is based both on the solid theoretical ground and open discussions.
Besides the students’ works, we publish lectures, reading materials, and work methodologies in order to expand and share the knowledge with everyone who is interested.
